Our goal with the Hunger Initiative is to have an effective, powerful, and meaningful mission effort to serve those facing food insecurity locally and around the world.
UNDERSTAND | ENGAGE | DEVELOP | FOSTER
We seek to understand and engage more fully in current hunger initiatives with UCOM, Sulzbacher, and Hunger Fight. Participate in congregational education regarding hunger locally and globally. We will work to develop and foster a relationship with a global mission partner that focuses on a wholistic approach to hunger.
OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Sulzbacher is the only place in Northeast Florida where anyone who is hungry can receive a nutritious meal 2 times a day, 365 days a year.
Our volunteers serve on a rotating basis to help make and serve meals to the guests at Sulzbacher Center.
United Community Outreach Ministry is an association of Southside churches who have come together to meet the needs of the community through food drives.
HAB partners with UCOM by volunteering at the food bank, conducting food drives, participating in meals on wheels program and local fundraising events.
CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We have teams of cooks that serve three times per year preparing the meals at Sulzbacher Center.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
Meet at Sulzbacher from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month your team is assigned to cook.
Serve volunteers meet from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the center.
UCOM is also always in need of volunteers to stock shelves and assist guests when they come for support. Another great way to serve is to volunteer one day a month to distribute MEALS ON WHEELS.
