B.J. Hutto, Ph.D.

Senior Pastor
Dr. B.J. Hutto is the senior pastor of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. He is originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina and graduated with a BA in Religion and English Literature from Wofford College. He also holds an MDiv and ThM from Duke University Divinity School. In 2019, he was awarded a PhD in Theological Ethics by Kings College, Aberdeen. He has written for publications such as Elevating Preaching, The Christian Century, and Touchstone Magazine, and his preaching has been featured on Day1.org.
Before coming to HAB, B.J. served the Madison Avenue Baptist Church in New York City, and, prior to that, several churches in North Carolina. B.J.’s wife, Rebekah, is an ordained Presbyterian (PCUSA) minister and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Interfaith Center of Northeast Florida. They have two children, Hannah Ruth and Elijah. When not working or studying, B.J. is happiest when spending his time like Jesus’ earliest disciples, in a fishing boat.
